Take Action Wisconsin

I received the email below and I know personally what secondhand smoke can do to a person.

Please Wisconsinites let our legislators know that you are behind a smoke free environment.

Governor Doyle's Tuesday Budget Address made it official: Wisconsin is posting a "no trespassing" sign for Big Tobacco at our state's borders. The governor said it best when he proclaimed, "this is not a budget for Big Tobacco…"

Governor Doyle's budget contains both of the pieces he promised to include to fight the terrible toll of tobacco in Wisconsin: a $1.25 increase in the cigarette tax and full funding for the state's anti-tobacco program. The budget's next stop is the Joint Finance Committee of the State Legislature.

We're thrilled now that we know Governor Doyle's anti-tobacco recommendations are official. We asked you to tell us what you thought, and here's what you said:

"I am hoping state legislators will deal with these important fiscal and public policy issues in a spirit of bipartisan responsibility and balance." - Mark, Genoa

"I thought Gov. Doyle's budget plan was well thought out and attainable. I applaud Gov. Doyle for addressing these difficult issues and proposing positive changes." - Julie, Manitowoc

We couldn't agree more! Now it's time to get your legislators on our side. Please send a quick e-mail to the members of the Joint Finance Committee today and ask them to support Governor Doyle's anti-tobacco budget recommendations.

Your e-mail to the Joint Finance Committee is a critical first step toward guaranteeing Wisconsin's next budget takes a stand for Wisconsinites by tackling Big Tobacco.
